Astronomically, Castor and
Pollux are the brightest stars in the constellation of Gemini and are
associated with shipping (even getting a mention in the Bible) and literature. The
symbol of Gemini is that of the twins, Castor and Pollux, brothers who were
known as complete opposites and each taking turns to be in either Heaven or
Hades. Perhaps this has led to the association with the dual nature of the sign
of Gemini and the talent for seeing both sides of an argument. Gemini is ruled
by the planet Mercury, a planet connected with cool, calm logic rather than the
complicated realm of emotions. Mercury (Hermes in the Greek) was the trickster
and shape-shifter in mythology and his element is air. He was the deliverer of
both earthly and divine messages. The lessons of a month beginning with the new
moon in Gemini can be understood by understanding the opposite sign of
Sagittarius: expanding and risk taking, searching for truth, exploring the
‘higher’ subjects of religion and philosophy as well as travelling further
afield.
The new moon in Gemini
therefore invokes a time of learning, short journeys and issues with siblings. It
is branching out (but not too far), learning lots of new things and taking
short journeys.
Next Full Moon in Capricorn on 2 July
